Dealing With Worry" . . . do not worry about your life . . . " {Matthew 6:25 NIV} ". . . do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." {Matthew 6:34 NIV} But how? In order to benefit from this article, it is necessary to first get saved. The following articles are also recommended to get started: Some tips to help you. First: start with prayer. "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." {Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV} Bring your worries to God. Pray. God is a personal God. Get into the habit of talking to God about your worries, whenever you are worried. Second: Recognize that your prayers have been answered, even if you don't see an immediate change in your circumstances. "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him." {1 John 5:14-15 NKJV} "For we walk by faith, not by sight." {2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV} Third: recognize that you are not alone in needing God's help. Remember the chorus from the hymn "I Must Tell Jesus."
Fourth: Recognize God's presence. You are dealing with a personal God who knows you, loves you, is all-powerful and who is always present. "I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. {Psalm 16.8 NASB} Fifth: Recite Scripture when you face challenges. Examples:
Recite Scripture, out loud, so the demon can hear. And apply the Scripture to your thought life. Sixth: Use affirmations and reminders based on Scripture. Examples: " . . . do not worry . . . " {Matthew 6:25 NIV} Affirmation: I'm not going to worry about this. "Be anxious for nothing . . ." {Philippians 4:6 NASB} Affirmation: I choose to 'be anxious for nothing.' "Trust in Him at all times . . ." {Psalm 62:8 NASB} Affirmation: Lord, I trust You with this. "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might." {Ephesians 6:10 NASB} Affirmation: I am 'strong in the Lord.' Reciting Scripture, and using affirmations based on Scripture, avails you of supernatural power (Hebrews 4:12). Keep your thoughts positive and constructive, rational and comforting. Correct negative thoughts. Your self-talk is very important. Seventh: A simple definition of worry is thinking about problems more than is necessary or productive. Don't do this. Any problem you focus on becomes a bigger issue; that is, the spiritual foothold is strengthened. ". . . whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right . . . think about these things." {Philippians 4:8 NASB} Note: Repetitively praying about a problem, over and over again, is another form of worrying and will make things worse. Eighth: cast your burden on the Lord. "Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; "Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden . . ." {Psalm 68:19 NASB} “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths." {Proverbs 3:5-8 NKJV} "For from days of old they have not heard or perceived by ear, Each day a burden exists:
You can make your life better—and easier—by casting your burdens on the Lord. When you are at rest about a situation, and no longer tormented with thoughts about it, you know you have successfully cast your burden upon the Lord. More information is available in the series entitled How to Cast a Burden. Another link is provided at the end of the article. Ninth: seek out wise counsel and emotional support from others. "Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in abundance of counselors there is victory." {Proverb 11:14 NASB} It is difficult to avoid worrying when you don't know what to do. Seek out wise counsel. Others may see things more clearly since they have different life experiences and are not emotionally impacted. "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." {Galatians 6:2 ESV} It is also important to have other people to share your feelings with when you experience emotional challenges. Tenth: "He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But whoever walks wisely will be delivered." {Proverbs 28:26 NKJV} Demons will, at times, create disturbing emotions and disconcerting ideas. Their objective is to create emotional distress and, if possible, get you to do something stupid. Don't give in to fear. Walk wisely. Eleventh: be afraid of giving in to fear. Everything in this life is manageable by trusting God, obeying God and walking wisely. When you give in to fear, you are not trusting God, you cannot walk wisely, and you will, inevitably, suffer needlessly. The suffering will result, directly, as a result of your emotions. It will result as a consequence of bad decisions. And it will result in additional people problems because others will view you as vulnerable. Fear is a choice. A very bad choice. Twelfth: God has forgiven you, now you must forgive others. {Colossians 3:13 et. al} You will find it impossible to stop worrying unless you also forgive everyone involved.
